The Glasgow Herald, Tuesday, 7th. August, 1917.
"Deaths on Service.
CAMERON.- In hospital. Bournemouth. William J. Cameron, Private, A.S.C., M.T., of Harris Hotel, Island of Harris, aged 50 years."
Army register of soldier's backpay and War Gratuity records payments to Widow, Sarah and son, Thomas E.
William John Cameron, A.S.C., M.T., Pte. M2/193120; died 4.8.1917, Boscombe Isolation Hp, Hants.
1901 Census Argyll, Inishall, Kilchrenan, Farm of Barbreck Hotel, recorded (transcription):- William I.(sic) Cameron (33), Hotel Keep and Master of Steamer, born Kilchrenan; Sarah Cameron (31), Wife, born Argyll, Muckairn; children including Thomas E. Cameron (7 months), born Inishall.
Deceased's son, Thomas Ewan Cameron (born 30.8.1900), was later to become hotelier of the Harris Hotel and is recorded as such returning from a holiday in Madeira with wife Elizabeth M. Cameron (born 12.1.1906), in October, 1959 (1st. Class incoming passenger list - Southampton - M/V 'Venus', Bergen Line).
