(Glasgow Herald 17th May 1915)
"Sergeant Alexander D. White, 7th Battalion A. and S. Highlanders, has been killed in France. From information contained in letters received from two Dollar men in the same company it seems that while resting eight miles from the firing line a shell burst among a party of 40, killing and wounding several. Sergeant White died in hospital shortly after. He was a popular N.C.O. He was well known and highly esteemed in the Dollar district." |
