Any idea why some of the graves are shown as "Sp. Mem."
I assume this means special memorial???
We don't seem to have Dyce Old Churchyard on the SWGP. _________________ Ken |

Special Memorial usually means they are remembered there. |

"Sp. Mem." indicates that the casualties not buried at the headstone / memorial.
In this case the headstones are inscribed " Buried near this spot " _________________ Jim

Hm. Kind of begs the question - why?
The story of the crash and of the recovery and burial of the remains is at
http://www.archieraf.co.uk/scs/wellingtonr1646.html
together with full biographies of the Australian, British, Canadian and New Zealand airmen.
The story of Pilot/Instructor James W Thomson, DFC, RNZAF is especially sad. _________________ Ken |
