I ran across this man today. He is buried in a CWGC grave in Galashiels but does not seem to be named on any memorial in the Borders which is a bit of a shame.
Captain
LYON, STEPHEN
Service Number 56893
Died 19/10/1945
Aged 58
King's Own Scottish Borderers
M B E, M S M
Son of George Hodgson Lyon and Susan Lyon, of Norwich; husband of Annie Elizabeth Lyon, of Norwich.
The local newspaper reported that
Captain Stephen Lyon, M.B.E., Lynhurst, Melrose Road, whose death has occurred suddenly, was a regular soldier who had served with the K.O.S.B. in the two world wars. He was for some time on the staff at the Regimental Depot at Berwick and was later stationed at Galashiels as quartermaster of the 4th K. 0.5.8. (Territorials). When war broke out he went to France with the K. 0.5.8, and, on the formation of the Home Guard, was again appointed quartermaster, post which he held until his death. Captain Lyon was native of Norwich.
Sergeant 9738 Stephen Lyons landed with the 2nd KOSB at Le Havre on 15 August 1914 and the 4th Territorial KOSB landed at St Malo in Brittany on 13 June 1940. So a long and distinguished record of service. _________________ Ken |
