This is a transcription from "For Remembrance and in Honour of those who lost their Lives in the South African War 1899-1902" by Sir James Gildea, published in 1911. This is a book which documents Boer War memorials in both Britain and abroad. Many of them make reference to Scottish Regiments.
Due to the age of the book, and the fact that this is a transcription, this memorial may no longer exist or be in the location as posted. I put this information online for reference. If anyone can provide a photo of this memorial we would be eternally grateful.
Quote: | “In Memory of Robert James Thomas Digby Jones, VC ,Lieutenant Royal Engineers, Seabank School, Alnmouth 1887-1890. Killed in action at Ladysmith while gallantly leading his men in the Defence of Wagon Hill on 6th January 1900. Erected by his Scots School-fellows at Alnmouth.” |
