I've had a request about a man named Harry Young, and I'm hoping together we can find out more about him.
What I know is this:
He was employed by Scottish Widows, and appears on a Roll of Honour (men serving as well as died) in 1915, showing he was working in their Belfast office, and was a Private in the 1/6th Black Watch.
He may have later served in the Royal Irish Rifles. He was taken prisoner, and was a POW in Germany from March until November 1918.
While he was there he made a wood panel carving of an @advert@ for Scottish Widows, and this is now on display in the head office of Scottish Widows in Edinburgh.
I believe the panel makes some mention of a Room 41, Block II.
What I'm trying to find out is how he was captured, and where he might have been held. Would the room and block number give any indication as to where he as held as a POW?
Basically, any gaps that can be filled in would be extremely helpful. |
