I recently obtained a copy of the FORESTRY COMMISSION SCOTLAND brochure for FORESTS IN INVERNESS published 2012 and it has in the CULLODEN WOODS a memorial :
This is what the leaflet says :
"THE PRISONERS' STONE , now hidden amongst the trees , remains as a grim reminder of the BATTLE OF CULLODEN . Victorious Government troops shot .... 17 JACOBITE PRISONERS here on APRIL 17th 1746 , the day after the Battle ."
I am trying to find any info on the names of the 17 Jacobite soldiers shot as they were not classed by the Hanoverian Troops as Prisoners of War like the French etc were . If they can say 17 were shot then someone must have some info on the names of these soldiers
