Remembered by the font in Greenlaw Parish Church.
Central hexagon is a lid which lifts to reveal the circular bowl below.
He is on the Greenlaw civic memorial and in the church's contemporary WWII roll.
108 Squadron flew Wellingtons from Kabrit, north of Suez in Egypt.
Greece had fallen earlier in 1941.

On 1 August 1941, No. 108 reformed at Kabrit as a night bomber Squadron. Its Wellingtons began bombing raids on the 22 September, targets being ports on the Libyan coast and in Greece. In November it began to receive Liberators and these supplemented the Wellingtons until June 1942

William Trotter – age 23 – Flight Sergeant (539041) 108 Squadron, Royal Air Force.
108 Squadron was formed as a night bomber squadron at RAF Kabrit in Egypt in August 1941 and its Wellington bombers began raids on ports on the Libyan coast and in Greece on 22 September. Williams aircraft was lost five days later on a raid on Rhodes.
Born 1918 in Greenlaw. Son of the late Robert Trotter (died 1932) and of Elizabeth Parker (Darling) Trotter of Flora Bank, Duns Road, Greenlaw and of Berwick-on-Tweed.
Missing in Action on 27 September 1941 and named on the Alamein Memorial, Egypt.
Also named on the Berwickshire High School memorial. _________________ Ken |
