This is a photograph I took a few years ago of the memorail cross which stood in the fields on Fenwick Moor just opposite the junction of the main Ayr Road and the Mearnskirk Hospital Road. It could only be reached by climbing over a barbed wire fence and bog-trotting. I havn't seen it for some time now as it has been by-passed by the new Ayr Dual Carriageway Road, it was in a fairly neglected state back then so hope its survived the road builders.
The inscription reads:
ARTHUR CAMERON CORBETT
SUB LT. ROYAL NAVAL AIR SERVICE
BORN 6TH MARCH 1898
KILLED IN ACTION 4TH DECEMBER 1916
JOHN POLSON CORBETT
LT. GRENADIER GUARDS
BORN 9TH OCTOBER 1924
KILLED IN ACTION 19TH JULY 1944 |
