This is a Brass plaque, framed in pink and cream marble and wood, carved with thistles and wreaths; dates of war in top corners.
It reads DULCE ET DECORUM / EST PRO PATRIA MORI /ROLL OF HONOUR / 1914 – 1919 / TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY / OF THOSE FROM THIS DISTRICT WHO GAVE / THEIR LIVES FOR US IN THE GREAT WAR /(10 names) / “BLESSED ARE THEY THAT MOURN FOR THEY SHALL BE COMFORTED” / “ON THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING / WE WILL REMEMBER THEM”
(The details of the names list is not known)
The Church will not be reopening after COVID due to the poor condition of the building after the 12 month COVID closure. It has, with immediate effect, been placed on the sale market- refer BBC Radio Shetland Evening News Bulletin 29 March 2021 |
