This is a very large and prominent memorial on the hilltop at OS Map Ref NS 392 039. A fantastic view from the top – walking boots required. It can be seen from Straiton and for several miles around, the people in the first photo give it some scale.
It is appropriate that I post this today because it is the anniversary of his death in the Crimean war. Two members of the same family died in WW2 and are listed on the Straiton memorial.
