Thanks to post office staff for providing step ladder, but special thanks to Mrs Aase Goldsmith who took these photos - at risk to life and limb!
Those who were killed are
Sgt William Anderson, rural postman, Machine Gun Corps killed 10/4/18
Pte John Andrews, rural postman, 1st Black Watch died in Germany 21/7/18
Pte David Cassels Howie, rural postman, 5th Royal Berks killed 28/3/18. Served also in South African War.
L/Cpl David Swinton, rural postman, Kings Own Scottish Borderers killed 28/8/18 |

Dundee Advertiser Wednesday 7th January 1920
CUPAR POSTAL STAFF ROLL OF HONOUR
In presence of an assembly of staff and others an exquisite Roll of Honour of the staff of Cupar Post Office,designed and executed by Mr R Boucher,was unveiled last night by Mr DB Duncan,Postmaster.Provost Stark presided.
Of the 26 men mentioned in the Roll four had made the supreme sacrifice-Sergt WM Anderson,MGC;Pte John Andrews 1st Black Watch;Pte DC Howie,Royal Berks;and L/Cpl David Swinton,KOSB.
Honours were gained by Rifleman James Grant Carstairs,Post Office Rifles and Rifleman John Duncan,1st Scottish Rifles,both of whom won the Military Medal. |
