Hi Paul,
Could you look and see if you can find anything on the following man please?.
What I'm trying to do, is figure out more about his connection to Baillieston for inclusion on the proposed War Memorial. Below is listed all the details I have on him to date, so MC/Attestation Papers - pretty much anything else you could find would be a bonus as with a bit of luck, somewhere down the line, his address or if he was married would be noted.
CWGC:
Name: Arthur Charles Saunders
Rank: Private
Regiment: Highland Light Infantry, 18th (Glasgow Yeomanry) Bn.
Age at Death: 25
Date of Death: 13.06.1918
Service No: 350443
Additional Info: Son of James & Agnes Saunders, 39 Montford Place, Upper Kennington Lane, London.
Buried: St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen. Q.I.E. 21
SNWM:
Name: Arthur C. Saunders
Rank: Private
Regiment: Highland Light Infantry, 18th Bn.
Date of Death: 13.06.1918
Service No: 350443
Birthplace: Kennington, Surrey
SDGW:
Name: Arthur Charles Saunders
Born: Kennington, Surrey
Enlisted: Glasgow
Resided: Baillieston (Glasgow)
BIRTH: From Free BMD (Vol. 1d, Page 405)
March Qtr., 1893, Lambeth
1901 Cencus: From Ancestry (RG13 408 85 6)
Address: 34 Laundry Upper Kennington Lane, Lambeth, Surrey
Head: James Saunders, age 36, Druggist Packer, born Southwark, London
Wife: Agnes, age 31, born Lambeth
Daughter: Susannah, age 13, born Lambeth
Son: Albert, age 10, born Lambeth
Son: Arthur, age 8, born Lambeth
Daughter: Agnes, age 3, born Lambeth
Son: Walter, age 1, born Lambeth
He obviously moved to Scotland sometime after 1901, but why or when is as yet unknown. He's not listed on any of the local Church Memorials so no clues there either.

Hi Anne
Sorry but I cannot add to what you already know. No pension papers or service record on Ancestry (presumably they didn't survive the blitz). No MIC - they are not up to Saunders yet. I don't think attestation papers are online anywhere. I think you may need to wait until his MIC goes online and/or the 1911 census is published in 2011.

Thanks for looking Paul.
I think we might have to try the Voters Roll.
If this man did reside in Baillieston, we wouldn't want him to be omitted.

It's a long shot, but looking at his father's trade, you might just find him in an old trade directory. Then there is the obits in the local paper of course.

I might have some Glasgow Directories at home, possibly one from 1901. I'll see what I can find. |

Paul,
Could you have a look for anything for a man named Allan Lynch. CSM then Warrant Officer in the Scottish Rifles, number 17885.
I'm hoping for a service record, although I know that's unlikely. I've seen his Medal Index Card, but only the Natiobnal Archives version, so I wouldn't mind seeing the full colour version.
Anything else you can find for him would be great.
Cheers,
David |
