I couldn't get good shots of the memorial or the church. I don't know the denomination of the current church or when the memorial was erected. It's not the Parish Church because that is round the corner.

Some interesting carvings here representing peace, victory, Christianity and the Union.
The dove of peace and the burning bush, The thistle, rose and shamrock, the cross and the laurel wreath. I know the Greek letter on the left is alpha, I think the one on the right is a variation on a lower case omega.

The woman listed on the Second World War addition is
DEWAR, ALICE WHITEHEAD
Initials: A W
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Sister
Regiment/Service: Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service
Age: 28
Date of Death: 12/02/1944
Service No: 270637
Additional information: Daughter of James and Mary Ann Stewart Dewar, of Kinross.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 22. Column 2.
Memorial: BROOKWOOD MEMORIAL
She's not listed alphabetically like the rest which is unusual for a Second World War memorial.
I'm sure that on that date a ship carrying nurses sunk and quite a few are commemorated on the Brookwood memorial and it has been mentioned on the forum before.

One of the Second World War names isn't on the town's war memorial
http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=1677
William Penman.
CWGC lists five William Penmans and without any other detail it is not possible to identify him from this memorial.

All the First World War names are on the local civic memorial. The only difference is Henry McGregor here is listed as Harry McGegor there.

Re Alice Whitehead Dewar A casualty of the sinking of the SS. Khedive Ismail that was en-route from Mombasa, East Africa to Colombo, Ceylon(Sri Lanka). The third worst shipping disaster of WW2.
She was hit by two torpedoes fired by the Japanese submarine I-27. She is reported to have sunk within two minutes taking 1,297 of the ship's 1,511 complement with her.
The casualties included 44 Queen Alexandra's Sisters - 7 East African Military Nurses - 17 Wrens and 8 Women's Territorial Service (East Africa).
The Khedive Ismail was the 14th victim of Captain Toshiaki Fukumura's submarine but his luck ran out three hours later when his sub was blown in half by a torpedo from HMS Petard with no survivors.
The above details extracted from "Passage to Destiny" by Brian James Crabb

I forgot to mention that Sister Dewar is also commemorated on The Kinross War Memorial in front of the County Buildings, High Street.

Thanks Tony. You've identified other Scots women too from the Khedive Ismail. One from Ardgay, I should have remembered that.
Many thanks

Adam
I did a trawl through my records and came up with 8 Identified Scottish Lasses as follows:-
Elsie Alice Delgarno – Aberdeen, Commem on Aberdeen Cathedral War Memorial
Alice Whitehead Dewar – Kinross on Kinross War Memorial & Kinross Church Mem.
Marion Lennox McMillan – Commem. On family grave Polmont Cemetery, Falkirk
Isabella Moore – Commemorated on East Kilbride W.M. Lanarkshire
Helen Murray Robertson, Fordyce, Banffshire
Isobel Spence, Commemorated onTullynessle W.M. Aberdeenshire
Mary Annie Ross Urquhart, Rhelonie, Sutherland. Commemorated on Kincardine & Croik W.M.
Ardgay, Sutherland
Kathleen Hewison Walker, Westray, Orkney
Unfortunately there are 20 unidentified locations so could be some more Scots these are they if anybody can identify them as Scots and I can amend my records.
there were also 7 Englsh - 3 Welsh - 5 Rep. of Ireland -1 N, Ireland and 1 New Zealander.
Unfortunately that totalled 45 so perhaps the NZ name was missed off Crabb's total?

This one could be Kinross West United Free Church. From Anne's 'Scotsman list' it is described as an Ayrshire stone slab. Unfortunately no names count. Kinross Parish Church has 56 names recorded - that's quite a lot. |

The burning bush is the symbol of the church of scotland and when accompanied by a dove it is the symbol for the united free church so I think you have the correct church
