"By permission of the Session, a lady member of the congregation, Mrs Stirling, caused a little oak table to be erected, at her own expense, as a Memorial to her own son. The table stands under the Bronze and Stone Memorial to the Fallen.”

The "those that fell with him" may have been the men of the 1/7th Scottish Rifles taking part in The Third Battle of Gaza which was raging at the time of Private Stirling's death.
