Transcription:
"In memory of Colonel Andrew Scott Stevenson, 42nd Royal Highlanders, The Black Watch. Youngest son of Nathaniel Stevenson Esquire of Braidwood who died in London on the 12th October 1892, in the 46th year of his age.
He served as adjutant of the Black Watch in the Ashantee War 1873-4, was wounded at the Battle of Amoaful, afterwards taking part in the capture and destruction of Becquah, Battle of Ordasu, and capture of Goomassie - Mentioned in Despatches. He again served in the Egyptian Expedition 1884, fought at the Battle of Tamai in the Soudan - took part in the Nile Expedition 1884-5 and was present at the action of Kirbekan; was again mention in despatches. He was adjutant of the 9th Lanark Rifle Volunteers 1885-90.
His early death was universally regretted by his friends and brother officers, for a braver or a kindlier heart never beat beneath the tartan." |
