St. Enoch’s Hogganfield Church, 860 Cumbernauld Road, Glasgow G33 2QW
OS Grid Ref: NS 629660
In November 1984 the congregation celebrated the golden jubilee of the opening of the church. Worship started on this site in 1924 in what is now the large hall, but the church was not opened until 27th November 1930. As the name suggests there is a connection between St. Enoch's in the city centre and Hogganfield which lies to the north of us. The two churches were combined to be known as St. Enoch's Hogganfield Parish Church.
About 1923, the Presbytery of Glasgow felt that with a possible 3,000 people coming to live in the new housing area of Riddrie, at least a mission hall should be built. ln 1924 the Corporation of Glasgow decided that the church in St. Enoch's Square would have to come down in view of the traffic needs of that area.
Riddrie was now growing and it was felt that a full church would be more advantageous than a hall. This new church would join with Hogganfield Church and be known as St. Enoch's Hogganfield. Work on it began in 1925 but due to various difficulties it did not open until 27th November 1930.
Problems were experienced with the foundation, so the stonework of the old church in St. Enoch's Square was transported to Riddrie and made the foundation of the present building.

A young Channel Islander drowned off the Northumberland coast is remembered in a church on the edge of Glasgow.
These memorials do throw up some intriguing stories.
