I noticed Fort William wasn't listed so far, so until we get a modern picture of this one here's a photograph from "Miss MacDougalls Photo Album".

Interestingly the UKNIWM entry states that the rifle was missing when the original entry to them was submitted - the rifle has been replaced but it it wooden and is now showing signs of wear.
Also, the original fence at the front of the memorial has been removed. When I visited, this allowed a couple of young girls to clamber all over the memorial provoking no reaction from their mother at all.
(This reinforced everything I've ever thought about Fort William) _________________

Interesting to see that the hotel in the original picture has had a whacking great ugly extension added to it. |

Was the original wooden? That might expalin why it was missing in the first place if it had rotten away.
I bet you the next one is fibreglass.
