Not sure whether this should count as a war memorial or not, I leave it to the mods to decide whether to remove it or not.
The argument for? - it commemorates an act which led to a battle.
The monument is in the main street in Sanquhar at NS 786 094, needless to say - it is not listed on UKNIWM

I'm happy to let this one stay. I posted the Sore Stone in Edinburgh which is in the UKNIWM database and commemorates the same sort of thing. The raising of a Standard and the preparations for battle.
I'm hoping we can see more memorials on the forum covering the Covenanters and other periods other than just the World Wars.
Regards

I confess that I am woefully ignorant of the covenanters but I am English, what would you expect? I usually describe mysefl as an honorary scot having been married to a scot for 34 years, serving with 3 scots regiments and now living in Scotland (not to mention my love of haggis, the pipes and a wee dram).
If you would like covenanters memorials, I will certainly look out for them in my travels, but as there are quite a few I believe, should there be a separate section? |

For national (WMR/UKNIWM) purposes, after seeking clarification, this does not qualify as a war memorial. The detailed reasoning is
This is because the dedication of the monument and plaque is marking the location of the original cross and Sanguhar Declarations, not in memory/dedication of subsequent actions. This would be deemed 'associated with people who died, served or suffered in war but which has no dedication as a memorial to that wartime expereince.' |

The Sore Stone in Edinburgh appears to have been removed from the WMR/UKNIWM database at some stage-presumably for the same reasoning |
