|
Captain Robert Cosens Weir died in India in 1867 - on service with the 1st Royals, later of course the Royal Scots.
Online search brings up a couple of references to him, firstly in 1864:
Quote: |
July 19th, 1864. Ist Regiment of Foot - Lieut. Robert Cosens-Weir to be capt., by purchase, vice John Binuie Mackenzie, who retires
|
then in 1866:
Quote: |
April 25. Robert Cosens Weir of Bogangreen, co. Berwick, esq. Lieut. 1st lloyals, has a patent of arms, and records his assumption of the surname of Weir after that of Cosens, in compliance with the terms of the settlement of his maternal uncle Thomas Weir of Bogangreen, advocate, who died in 1846.
|
and also indicate his wife's full name was Caroline Louisa Antoinette Irwin.
London Gazette of 8th November 1867 gives this information on his death:
Quote: |
1st Regiment of Foot - Lieutenant George W. Thompson to be Captain, without purchase, vice Robert Cosens-Weir, deceased. Dated 5th September 1867.
