|
|
This is a brand new memorial raised in remembrance of the KOSB and its association with the town of Hawick.
It was unveiled by Provost Zandra Elliot on the wall of Hawick Town Hall on the 12th July, 2009.
This date is the anniversary of the infamous charge of the 1/4th and 1/5th KOSB battalions at Gallipoli in 1915 - a charge in which at least 70 men from the Hawick and surrounding area died.
Funding for the plaque came from Hawick Callants' Club, the Hawick KOSB Association and the 4th KOSB Reunion Club.
The plaque was made by Beltane Studios in Peebles and incorporates the badges of the KOSB and Hawick Callants' Club and a small inscription.
My thanks to Skwirrel for the photos.
