John Prentice McNeilage
With the invaluable help of Ken Morrison here is the background to Lt McNeilage. He is not recorded on CWGC or SNWM and it looks unlikely at the moment that we can attribute his death to his war service.
He was born at Paisley and, in 1901 the family were at Portland Park in Hamilton in 1901 where Peter was a draper.
He served as Private 2409 & 330549 with the 1/9th HLI (Glasgow Highland) and landed with them in France on 5 November 1914. (Medal Card)
He was commissioned in the Seaforths on 30 April 1918. (London Gazette 3/5/1918 p.5466)
He relinquished his commission on completion of service on 8 September 1919. (London Gazette 9/12/1919 p.15420/1)
He died on 14 October 1919 at Finlay Drive, Glasgow: cause of death: Lobar Pneumonia.
There is an entry in the Register of Soldiers' Effects: 2nd Lt JP McNeilage, Seaforth Highlanders. Died 14/10/1919. Award of £21 War Gratuity made 3/6/1920. |
