Both the following articles (Stirling Observer) were published in the Buchlyvie local section. He is not included on Buchlyvie's Civic Memorial.
Stirling Observer, 12th December 1914, ‘Auchentroig Men’s Patriotism’
The patriotic feeling of the young men of the district may be stimulated by the news that the following employees on Auchentroig estate have joined the forces to serve their country: ..... William Campbell, Highland Light Infantry (Kitchener’s Army).
Stirling Observer, 16th February 1918, 'Former Auchentroig Footman Killed'
Official intimation has been received by Mrs. Campbell, 41 Calder Street, Blantyre, that her eldest son, Private Willie Wellwood Campbell, H.L.I., has been killed. He was 32 years of age and prior to enlistment was footman with Colonel Euing Crawford, Auchentroig, Stirlingshire.
Note that in the 'Effects' document, he is listed as leaving a widow (Christina Campbell), but there is no mention of him being married either in the CWGC database or the 2nd Observer article. |

The 1891 census has Peter and Ellen Colligan living in Morlon land, Kirkintilloch with William 17, John 8, Thomas 3 (+ 3 girls); Peter and William were both coal miners.
The 1901 census has John and Thomas living with an uncle and aunt in Blantyre.
By 1911 John had married and was living in Stirling with 1 child (followed by a second in 1912; his wife died in 1913) He was a coal miner.
Thanks to John for posting the link to the list of names on High Blantyre Memorial I was able to find out that both William and Thomas had been killed.
